Here at HumidorWarehouse.com we are always asked "Why should I only use distilled water in the humidifier in my cigar humidor? Can I use just tap water?". Distilled water is the only water you should use inside your cigar humidor's humidifier system.
Distilled water is simple normal tap water that has been boiled to get rid of any odiferous chemicals in the water. The steam of the boiled water is trapped and saved, giving you pure H2O, or “Distilled H2O". So, the reason is very simple, distilled water has no chemicals in the water such as chlorine (and several other chemicals) that are commonly found in tap water in attempt to keep the water clean.
You should understand that by using tap water, all the chemicals in the water will be absorbed into your cigars. Who in their stogie-loving right mind would want to taste chlorine or any other chemical, when you light up your fine hand rolled cigar?
The whole idea of a humidifier system in a humidor is to ensure that your cigars stay fresh and age properly while inside your humidor. Using distilled water will ensure that your cigars will not have any unpleasant chemicals taste.
So if you still don’t want to follow our advice and fill your humidifier up with stinky Chernobyl style tap water, don’t say the stogie guys at HumidorWaerhouse.com didn’t warn you…
